Kai Wehnelt enters the M25 Muttenz as the clear favorite against wildcard Thomas Gunzinger, backed by his ATP ranking near 619 and extensive ITF experience at age 30. Gunzinger, ranked around 1995 and a Swiss local, receives home support but arrives with limited senior results after competing primarily in juniors and lower-level events. Wehnelt’s consistent participation in similar M25 events contrasts with Gunzinger’s recent losses in ITF M25 draws, underscoring the ranking and form gap. The opening-round matchup on outdoor hard courts favors the German’s established baseline game and match toughness, though Gunzinger’s familiarity with Swiss conditions offers limited upset potential in a best-of-three format.
