The Detroit Tigers (61-66) visit the Kansas City Royals (55-74) for the opener of a three-game series at Kauffman Stadium, with the Tigers clinging to a 1.5-game deficit in the AL wild-card race while the last-place Royals chase a season-high sixth straight win after sweeping the Athletics. Troy Melton (7-1, sub-2.00 ERA) takes the mound for Detroit against Noah Cameron (7-8, 4.16 ERA), giving the Tigers a clear edge in the probable pitching matchup. Kansas City’s recent offensive surge, led by Bobby Witt Jr., has produced strong recent form (6-4 in its last 10), but multiple Tigers injuries, including to Riley Greene and other outfielders, have contributed to a 4-6 skid over the same span. Trader consensus reflects the closely contested nature of the matchup, with the Royals’ home momentum and hot streak balanced against Detroit’s superior starter and playoff implications.
