Both the San Francisco Giants (55-81) and New York Mets (61-75) enter their September 4-6 series at Citi Field well out of playoff contention after disappointing 2026 campaigns. The Giants face significant roster challenges, with shortstop Willy Adames on the 10-day IL following a moderate elbow sprain and PRP injection that leaves his season in doubt, alongside absences for Matt Chapman (core surgery), Harrison Bader, and multiple starters/receivers dealing with arm and knee issues that have thinned their rotation and lineup depth. The Mets similarly deal with key players on the IL, including Juan Soto and Mark Vientos. Recent results show inconsistent form for both clubs amid these injuries, with pitching matchups and bullpen availability likely to shape game outcomes in what remains a low-stakes late-season interleague set.
