Tampa Bay Rays (78-54) host Detroit Tigers (62-70) in the rubber match of their series on August 26, with the AL East leaders holding a 1-1 split after Monday’s 4-1 win and Tuesday’s 4-1 loss. Freddy Peralta (5-11, 5.33 ERA) takes the mound for Tampa Bay against Troy Melton (7-2, 1.60 ERA), whose strong command and low WHIP give Detroit a clear edge in the probable pitching matchup. The Tigers snapped a six-game skid with Tuesday’s victory fueled by Max Clark’s homer and effective relief work, though Detroit remains well back in the wild-card race after losing nine of its previous 10. Both clubs carry notable injuries to key position players and arms, while recent offensive inconsistencies and defensive miscues have shaped the closely contested series.
