Both NL East clubs enter this late-August series with sub-.500 records and long-eliminated playoff hopes, leaving motivation and roster health as central variables. The Mets, currently last in the division, continue to manage multiple significant injuries, notably to Juan Soto and reliever Devin Williams, while relying on depth options amid a middling offense and bullpen. The Nationals hold a modest edge in the standings and recent results but face their own absences, including outfielder James Wood, complicating lineup stability. Pitching matchups, home-field advantage at Citi Field, and any late-August roster tweaks or rest decisions will shape outcomes in what amounts to a low-stakes, high-variance set of games between rebuilding clubs.
