Javokhir Sindarov holds the edge in trader consensus after his record-breaking, unbeaten victory at the 2026 Candidates Tournament in Cyprus, where he posted 10/14 with six wins to secure the challenger spot. That dominant run, combined with strong recent form in rapid and blitz events, has shifted momentum toward the young Uzbek grandmaster ahead of his November–December title match against defending champion Gukesh Dommaraju. Gukesh, who claimed the crown in 2024, enters as the experienced titleholder but has shown inconsistent classical results since then. Head-to-head clashes in the May 2026 Grand Chess Tour Super Rapid & Blitz in Poland produced mixed outcomes, underscoring the razor-thin competitive balance between the two 20-year-olds while highlighting Sindarov’s current peak preparation and psychological edge.
