Javokhir Sindarov’s dominant victory in the 2026 FIDE Candidates Tournament has established him as the clear market leader for the upcoming World Chess Championship match against defending champion Gukesh Dommaraju. The 20-year-old Uzbek grandmaster posted a record unbeaten score and elite performance rating in the double round-robin, securing qualification with a round to spare in Cyprus. This recent surge in form and momentum has shifted trader consensus toward Sindarov in the classical title contest scheduled for late 2026. Gukesh retains solid support as the reigning champion who previously rose to the occasion in high-stakes events, though his results in 2025 were less consistent. The matchup pits two of the sport’s youngest top talents against each other, with the implied probabilities reflecting Sindarov’s current edge in preparation and recent results while acknowledging the unpredictable nature of a best-of-14 series.
