The 2026–27 Ligue 2 campaign opened on August 8 with a notably balanced field for the runner-up spot. Several clubs recently relegated from Ligue 1—Nantes, Metz, Saint-Étienne, Montpellier, and Reims—bring superior squad depth, budgets, and experience that position them as strong contenders, while consistent Ligue 2 sides such as Dunkerque, Guingamp, Rodez, and Annecy maintain competitive rosters from prior seasons. Newly promoted teams including Boulogne, Sochaux, and Dijon add further parity through fresh momentum and reinforcement. After the opening matchday, early results have shown Saint-Étienne, Dunkerque, Rodez, Metz, Annecy, and Red Star collecting points, yet the overall standings remain fluid with no dominant frontrunner emerging. This depth of candidates, combined with the long 38-match schedule and typical Ligue 2 volatility around form, injuries, and managerial adjustments, keeps implied probabilities tightly clustered around the current consensus levels.

If at any point it becomes impossible for a listed participant to finish as runner-up of Ligue 2 for the 2026-27 season per the rules of Ligue 2 (e.g., the participant is eliminated), the corresponding market will resolve to "No".
If multiple teams are declared as second-place finishers, this market will resolve in favor of the team whose listed name comes first alphabetically.
If this event is cancelled, postponed after July 31, 2027, 11:59 PM ET, or a runner-up has not been declared within this timeframe, this market will resolve to "Other".
The resolution source will be official information from the Ligue 2; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.
