Magnus Carlsen holds the strongest position in the Norway Chess 2026 field as the seven-time defending champion and world number one at 2840, entering the Oslo double round-robin with recent victories in the Chess.com Open and FIDE Freestyle World Championship that underscore his classical form and home-soil edge. Vincent Keymer’s market share reflects his first appearance at elite level combined with a 2759 rating and consistent recent results, while Alireza Firouzja draws support from prior strong showings against top opposition. Gukesh Dommaraju and Praggnanandhaa Rameshbabu benefit from their world champion pedigree and Indian chess depth, and Wesley So adds value through experience in compact elite events. The six-player lineup remains stable with no reported withdrawals or late changes ahead of the May 25 start.
