Pakistan conducts targeted operations against TTP militants it says operate from Afghan territory, while Afghan forces respond to incursions and airstrikes, producing regular cross-border incidents despite two short Eid-related pauses in March and May 2026. Chinese-mediated talks and earlier Doha efforts have yielded only temporary halts rather than mechanisms to address core issues such as militant sanctuaries and disputed frontier control. Diplomatic statements from both sides emphasize restraint, yet neither has committed to a permanent truce or verification process that would resolve the underlying security tensions before scheduled regional summits later this year.
