This market will resolve to "Yes" if at least one seat on the United States Supreme Court becomes vacant between January 1 and December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". The primary resolution source for this market will be official announcements from the U.S. Government. However, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used. No U.S. Supreme Court vacancy has materialized or been announced in 2026, with the two oldest justices—Clarence Thomas (age 78) and Samuel Alito (age 76)—offering no public signals of retirement or health-related departure. Alito recently stated in an interview that he plans to serve another term, while other members, including Chief Justice John Roberts and Sonia Sotomayor (both age 71), show no reported issues or exit intentions. Earlier speculation around strategic timing ahead of midterms has not produced confirmed developments, Senate holds, or official statements that would alter the current nine-justice composition before year-end. Trader consensus on the "No" outcome at 73.5% reflects this absence of catalysts, consistent with historical patterns where lifetime tenure leads most justices to remain absent explicit announcements.
