This market will resolve to "Yes" if FIFA sells an equity stake in FIFA Forward Enterprise, or in any other entity that holds commercial rights to or operates the FIFA World Cup, to one or more outside investors by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". An outside investor refers to any person not employed, or entity not owned or controlled, by FIFA, its member associations, or its confederations. A qualifying sale refers to an outside investor acquiring direct equity ownership, voting shares, convertible rights treated as equity, or equivalent ownership interests in the entity. Non-equity financial instruments, sponsorship agreements, broadcast rights agreements, and other commercial contracts that do not convey ownership in the entity will not count. An official announcement by FIFA or by a purchasing investor of a completed qualifying sale, or of a binding agreement to complete a qualifying sale, within this market's timeframe will be sufficient to resolve this market to "Yes". Approvals of the entity's creation, proposals, negotiations, letters of intent, or other announcements which do not announce a completed sale or a binding sale agreement will not count. The entity need not be named FIFA Forward Enterprise, provided it fulfills the description above. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from FIFA; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.FIFA’s recent announcement of plans to create a $20 billion FIFA Forward Enterprise subsidiary and sell up to 20% stakes in its commercial operations—including the World Cup—to private investors has triggered immediate and widespread opposition from UEFA, other confederations, and key figures like senior adviser Carlos Cordeiro, who resigned in protest. The proposal, floated just days after the conclusion of the expanded 2026 tournament, requires approval from member associations and the FIFA Council, with critics framing it as a threat to football’s governance and “soul.” Strong backlash and procedural hurdles have reinforced trader consensus that equity sales are unlikely to proceed in their current form during 2026, despite FIFA’s stated goal of boosting development funding.
