Javokhir Sindarov holds the edge in this 2026 World Chess Championship matchup thanks to his record-breaking, undefeated run through the FIDE Candidates Tournament in April, where he secured victory with a round to spare and posted six wins in the double round-robin. The 20-year-old Uzbek grandmaster has carried that momentum into recent Grand Chess Tour events, including a 2-1 mini-match win over defending champion Gukesh Dommaraju in rapid and blitz play. Gukesh, who withdrew from select tournaments to focus on preparation, faces the added pressure of expectations as titleholder in what will be the youngest classical world championship match in history. Trader consensus reflects Sindarov’s superior recent form and head-to-head results against the Indian star, though Gukesh’s experience and resilience keep the outcome competitive.
