The expanded 2026 FIFA World Cup format places 48 nations into 12 groups of four, with the top two from each group plus the eight strongest third-placed sides advancing to the new Round of 32 knockout phase. Recent group-stage draws positioned traditional powers such as Spain, Argentina, Brazil, Germany, and France against varied opposition, creating clear favorites while leaving room for competitive third-place battles resolved by points, goal difference, goals scored, and fair-play tiebreakers. Squad depth, recent international form, and fixture scheduling across North American venues will shape early results, with host nations Mexico, Canada, and the United States benefiting from home support and familiar conditions in their opening matches.
