Both the Kansas City Royals and Los Angeles Angels enter the August 15 matchup mired near the bottom of their divisions with records around 48-68 and 44-71, respectively, eliminating meaningful playoff implications. The Royals continue to navigate the absence of shortstop Bobby Witt Jr., sidelined since late July with back tightness, which has further limited their offensive production. Multiple Royals pitchers also remain on the injured list. The Angels face parallel challenges, with starters Yusei Kikuchi and Sam Bachman among several arms on the IL alongside Anthony Rendon. Recent form for both clubs has been inconsistent, with limited head-to-head context from earlier in the season shaping limited expectations around starting pitching matchups and bullpen reliability at Angel Stadium.
