Aisha Wahab leads early returns in the June 2, 2026, top-two primary for California's 14th congressional district following Eric Swalwell's departure from the seat. As the endorsed candidate of the California Democratic Party and a sitting state senator whose district overlaps much of the East Bay territory, Wahab has consolidated support among Democratic voters. Melissa Hernandez, BART board president, holds second place in partial counts. Under the state's nonpartisan primary rules, the top two finishers advance to the August 18 special general election in a district that has favored Democratic nominees by wide margins in recent cycles. Republican candidates trail well behind in the vote tally.
