Incumbent Democratic Representative Sam Liccardo secured a dominant position in California's June 2, 2026, top-two primary for the 16th Congressional District, receiving over 73 percent of the vote and advancing to the general election. Republican Peter Soule finished second with roughly 12 percent, narrowly ahead of fellow Republican Kevin Johnson at about 11 percent, while independent Jotham Stein trailed with around 3 percent. Under the state's nonpartisan primary rules, the top two vote-getters advance regardless of party. The district's solidly Democratic lean contributed to the lopsided primary results, with the general election now scheduled for November 3, 2026.
