Taro Daniel enters this US Open qualifying matchup as the clear market favorite, backed by his ATP ranking of 186, career-high of 58, and recent hard-court momentum with multiple straight-set wins in the Quebec City Challenger. The 33-year-old Japanese veteran brings extensive main-tour and Grand Slam qualifying experience on the surface. Andrew Johnson, a 16-year-old American junior ranked near 800, received a qualifying wild card after strong junior results but has limited professional exposure at this level. Traders price in Daniel's superior serve-return consistency and break-point conversion as decisive edges, though Johnson's athletic potential and home-crowd support on hard courts represent the primary upset scenario in the first-round encounter.
