Taro Daniel enters the Quebec City Challenger round-of-32 matchup as the clear favorite against local wild card Duncan Chan, driven by a substantial ranking gap—Daniel near 186 versus Chan’s career-high 486—and greater ATP-level experience. The Japanese player has posted a strong 2026 record exceeding 30 wins, including recent Challenger successes on varying surfaces that highlight consistent form and serve reliability. Chan, a 21-year-old Canadian, benefits from home support on hard courts and recent ranking gains plus a prior Challenger final appearance, yet faces a steep test in his first significant professional outing against a veteran. No prior head-to-head exists, leaving surface-specific adaptation and early-match momentum as key variables that could influence the outcome in this opening-round encounter.
