The New York Yankees hold a narrow edge in the AL wild-card race over the Boston Red Sox entering their four-game series at Yankee Stadium, with New York at 76-58 and Boston at 73-61. Both clubs enter on strong recent form (7-3 in their last 10), but the Yankees benefit from superior team ERA, the AL's second-highest home-run total, and a favorable pitching matchup in the August 29 nightcap featuring Max Fried against a Red Sox opener plus Brayan Bello. Boston counters with strong road results, power from players like Wilyer Contreras, and impending returns from injured contributors such as Roman Anthony and Trevor Story. Multiple key absences on both sides, including Aaron Judge for New York, add uncertainty to the closely contested AL East/Wild Card implications.
