Daniel Altmaier enters the Hamburg European Open round of 32 on home clay as the higher-ranked player at No. 64 against No. 96 Rinky Hijikata. The German’s experience on red clay, including strong baseline rallies and defensive consistency, contrasts with Hijikata’s quicker points and hard-court success in their lone prior meeting. Recent form shows Altmaier navigating European swing matches effectively while Hijikata adjusts to the slower surface after limited clay exposure this season. Home support and familiarity with Am Rothenbaum conditions could influence early momentum, though the Australian’s athleticism offers realistic upset potential in a match that resolves upon completion of best-of-three sets.
