Incumbent Democrat Lauren Underwood faces Republican James Marter in Illinois’s 14th congressional district on November 3, 2026. The seat carries a Cook Partisan Voter Index of D+3 and has been rated Solid Democratic or Safe Democratic by forecasters including the Cook Political Report, Sabato’s Crystal Ball, and Inside Elections. Underwood won her 2024 general election with 55.1 percent and advanced unopposed through the March 2026 Democratic primary, while Marter prevailed in the Republican contest. Underwood’s substantial fundraising edge and the district’s modest Democratic tilt underpin trader consensus that the seat is unlikely to flip. A major scandal, health event, or unusually strong national Republican wave could still alter the outcome, though no such developments have emerged.
