Ramzan Kadyrov’s position as head of the Chechen Republic remains anchored by Russian President Vladimir Putin’s public endorsement of his re-election bid during their April 29, 2026 Kremlin meeting, which directly preceded the September 20, 2026 regional vote. Persistent health rumors, including reports of kidney failure and hospitalizations in late 2025 and early 2026, fueled succession speculation around family members such as sons Akhmat and Adam Kadyrov or figures like Magomed Daudov, yet Kadyrov has continued official duties and rejected claims of incapacity. Kremlin backing and Kadyrov’s two-decade record of maintaining stability and delivering troops for federal operations have kept trader consensus focused on continuity through year-end, with any shift dependent on post-election developments or verifiable changes in Moscow’s preferences.
