Incumbent Mayor Wayne Johnston's April 2026 announcement that he would not seek re-election has reshaped the October 27 Tasmanian local government contest for Meander Valley. This has elevated current Deputy Mayor Stephanie Cameron as the leading contender in market pricing, with Councillor Ben Dudman positioned as the primary challenger and most other listed candidates trading near even odds. The absence of fresh polling or major campaign developments since the fixed-term election schedule was confirmed keeps probabilities closely balanced, reflecting trader assessments of local name recognition, council voting records, and community priorities such as infrastructure and services. The Tasmanian Electoral Commission declaration will determine resolution, with any late endorsements or turnout shifts in rural and urban wards able to influence the final margin.
