Bennie Thompson's commanding position in the MS-02 House race stems from the district's strong Democratic lean, reflected in its voting patterns across the Mississippi Delta and Jackson area, combined with the incumbent's long tenure and decisive March 2026 primary victory exceeding 86 percent. Republican nominee Ron Eller faces structural headwinds typical of this seat, where Democrats have maintained consistent majorities in recent cycles. Trader consensus at 91.5 percent for Democrats aligns with these fundamentals and the absence of competitive polling shifts. Potential shifts could arise from Thompson's withdrawal, a significant scandal, health developments, or an unexpected national realignment altering turnout in this low-competition general election on November 3, 2026.
