Multiple returning running backs enter the 2026 FBS season with comparable production from 2025, including Kewan Lacy (Ole Miss, 1,567 yards), Ahmad Hardy (Missouri, 1,649 yards), and Cam Cook (Jacksonville State, 1,659 yards), alongside strong supporting options such as Justice Haynes, LJ Martin, Jadan Baugh, Caleb Hawkins, and Mark Fletcher. Preseason analyst rankings and spring reports highlight this group’s similar workloads, offensive line support, and conference schedules, while factors like potential injury absences, committee backfields, and late portal movement keep outcomes fluid. The wisdom of crowds reflected in current pricing shows no single back separating decisively ahead of Week 1, underscoring the depth across power-conference and Group of Five programs.
