**The 2026 SEC passing touchdowns race remains exceptionally tight early in the season, with trader consensus reflecting deep parity across two dozen quarterbacks rather than any dominant frontrunner.** Many candidates enter with fresh starts or elevated roles in new schemes: transfers like Byrum Brown (Auburn) bring proven dual-threat volume from USF, John Mateer (Oklahoma) returns healthy after a 2025 injury, and Keelon Russell (Alabama) steps into a high-upside starting job under Kalen DeBoer. Returning standouts such as Arch Manning (Texas), Trinidad Chambliss (Ole Miss), Gunner Stockton (Georgia), and Marcel Reed (Texas A&M) add proven production, while others like LaNorris Sellers, Sam Leavitt, and Austin Simmons occupy similar tiers in preseason evaluations. Week 1–2 QBR and efficiency numbers show a bunched group (e.g., Kamario Taylor, Faizon Brandon, and Manning posting strong early marks), but small samples and schedule variance keep long-term passing TD projections uncertain. The league’s overall QB depth, varied offensive philosophies, and typical SEC defensive adjustments sustain the competitive balance reflected in the market pricing.
