Ohio's 5th congressional district maintains a strong Republican tilt, reflected in its R+12 partisan voting index and Donald Trump's 24-point margin there in 2024. Incumbent Bob Latta secured the Republican nomination in the May 2026 primary with minimal opposition, while Democrat Brian Shaver advanced from a low-turnout primary field. Nonpartisan ratings classify the seat as Solid Republican, citing Latta's consistent reelection margins and the absence of competitive Democratic challengers or major scandals. Trader consensus pricing a Republican victory above 90 percent aligns with these structural factors and historical midterm patterns in similar districts. A Democratic upset would require an unusually large national wave or unforeseen developments in the final weeks before the November 3 general election.

A candidate's party will be determined by their ballot-listed or otherwise identifiable affiliation with that party at the time all of the 2026 House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources. A candidate without a ballot-listed affiliation to either the Democrat or Republican parties will be considered a member of one of these parties based on the party with which they most recently expressed their intent to caucus at the time all of the House elections are conclusively called by this market's resolution sources.
