**Sundance Film Festival buzz from early 2026 remains the dominant catalyst** shaping trader sentiment in this wide-open 2027 Best Documentary Feature market. Once Upon a Time in Harlem leads at 18.5% on the strength of its restored 1972 footage of Harlem Renaissance figures, strong critical reception, and NEON theatrical release slated for October. American Doctor (14%) benefits from multiple audience awards and timely subject matter involving U.S. physicians in Gaza, while Nuisance Bear (9.5%) gained momentum as the expanded short that won Sundance’s Grand Jury Prize for its immersive climate and human-wildlife portrait. These frontrunners sit well ahead of titles like Musk or One in a Million, reflecting early festival momentum over later releases. With no guild or precursor results yet and dozens of eligible films still to premiere, the market shows high uncertainty; upcoming fall festival slots and distributor campaigns will likely create the first meaningful shifts before nomination voting begins.
