Rick Shegog holds the strongest position in the West Tamar mayoral race as the current deputy mayor and a councillor since 2007, benefiting from his established profile in local governance and infrastructure decisions. Incumbent Mayor Christina Holmdahl’s recent decision not to seek another term has shifted the field, reducing her market share to low single digits while elevating experienced councillors. Carl Cooper draws modest trader interest as a potential alternative, yet trails significantly. Tasmanian local elections on October 27 use preferential voting across the municipality, with the Tasmanian Electoral Commission declaring the official result. Limited public polling or candidate announcements to date leave the outcome sensitive to late nominations, preference flows, and turnout in key areas like Riverside and Legana.
