The public rift between Elon Musk and Ashley St. Clair over their son Romulus, now nearly two years old, has fueled the market's decisive lean toward no full custody for Musk. Musk announced his intent to file in January after St. Clair apologized for earlier anti-trans comments and voiced support for the community, which he framed as a risk to the child. St. Clair quickly countered by seeking sole custody herself, citing Musk's minimal involvement—he has met the child only a handful of times—and his history of financial leverage. Traders view the high bar for overturning primary caregiving arrangements in family court, combined with the child's age and lack of precedent for swift full-custody shifts in similar celebrity cases, as decisive barriers. Ongoing proceedings and possible settlements remain the key variables to watch.
