This market will resolve to "Yes" if FIFA sells an equity stake in FIFA Forward Enterprise, or in any other entity that holds commercial rights to or operates the FIFA World Cup, to one or more outside investors by December 31, 2026, 11:59 PM ET. Otherwise, this market will resolve to "No". An outside investor refers to any person not employed, or entity not owned or controlled, by FIFA, its member associations, or its confederations. A qualifying sale refers to an outside investor acquiring direct equity ownership, voting shares, convertible rights treated as equity, or equivalent ownership interests in the entity. Non-equity financial instruments, sponsorship agreements, broadcast rights agreements, and other commercial contracts that do not convey ownership in the entity will not count. An official announcement by FIFA or by a purchasing investor of a completed qualifying sale, or of a binding agreement to complete a qualifying sale, within this market's timeframe will be sufficient to resolve this market to "Yes". Approvals of the entity's creation, proposals, negotiations, letters of intent, or other announcements which do not announce a completed sale or a binding sale agreement will not count. The entity need not be named FIFA Forward Enterprise, provided it fulfills the description above. The primary resolution source for this market will be official information from FIFA; however, a consensus of credible reporting may also be used.FIFA's July 28 announcement of plans to create a $20 billion subsidiary, FIFA Forward Enterprises, and sell up to 21% minority stakes to investors for $4.2 billion has triggered immediate pushback from UEFA, which called the move a threat to football's "soul" and raised boycott possibilities. The proposal requires majority approval from FIFA's 211 member associations and its council, with governance safeguards ensuring FIFA retains majority control and sporting authority. Recent successful 2026 World Cup commercialization has fueled the initiative, yet significant European resistance and the multi-step ratification process have shaped trader consensus that equity sales remain unlikely to advance in their current form.
