Japan enters the 2026 World Cup in strong recent form, highlighted by a 1-0 friendly victory over England at Wembley and consistent results against other top sides, fueling expectations of advancing from Group F alongside the Netherlands. The expanded 48-team format and favorable group positioning against Sweden and Tunisia support a high implied probability of reaching the knockout rounds, yet historical exits at the round of 16, noted squad injuries, and a challenging opening match create uncertainty over progression depth. Trader pricing remains tight between round-of-32 elimination and further advancement because the Samurai Blue's disciplined midfield control and pace on the wings offer realistic upset potential in the round of 16, while defensive limitations and tougher subsequent matchups cap deeper runs for most observers.
