Daniil Medvedev enters the second round of the 2026 National Bank Open in Montreal with strong momentum, holding a 30-12 record and two titles this season while sitting at world No. 6. The hard-court specialist leads Botic van de Zandschulp 4-0 in head-to-head meetings, all on the surface, and has shown consistent depth in Masters 1000 events. Van de Zandschulp, ranked around No. 70 with a near-.500 2026 mark, reached this stage after a first-round win but faces a significant ranking and experience gap. Recent form favors Medvedev’s ability to control rallies and convert break points, though the Dutch player’s occasional power surges and prior Grand Slam upsets add an element of unpredictability on the outdoor hard courts.
