The 2026 ACC rushing yards race remains tightly contested among a deep group of returning backs because no single player has separated after Week 1 while multiple offenses project to support heavy workloads. Duke sophomore Nate Sheppard posted a national-best 227 yards on 35 carries against Tulane, building on his 1,132-yard freshman campaign and positioning him as an early focal point after quarterback Darian Mensah’s transfer. Miami’s Mark Fletcher Jr. and Louisville’s Isaac Brown headline preseason All-ACC recognition and return to potent attacks, while Florida State’s Ousmane Kromah, Georgia Tech’s Justice Haynes and Malachi Hosley, Stanford’s Micah Ford, and others such as Ja’Kyrian Turner, Marcellous Hawkins, and Kendrick Raphael bring comparable production or situational edges. Early results, depth chart stability, and varying offensive philosophies across the conference have kept implied probabilities clustered, reflecting the potential for several backs to accumulate substantial volume depending on usage, injuries, and team success.
