Elevated year-to-date tornado counts, exceeding 1,135 confirmed or preliminary reports by late July according to NOAA Storm Prediction Center data, position the 1250+ bracket as the market favorite at 85.5% implied probability. An unusually active spring and early summer, driven by persistent favorable atmospheric conditions including strong low-level shear and instability across the Midwest, produced record activity in states like Illinois (over 200 tornadoes) and elevated totals in Indiana and Wisconsin. This pace surpasses typical climatological averages and aligns with long-range outlooks projecting 1,050–1,250 annual tornadoes. Remaining months through December usually add modest numbers, but ongoing monitoring by the SPC and NCEI will refine final verified counts before market resolution.
