Tensions between India and Pakistan remain elevated more than a year after the May 2025 four-day conflict, when India conducted missile strikes under Operation Sindoor on alleged terrorist sites following the April Pahalgam attack that killed 26 civilians. The ceasefire agreed via military hotlines has held without major breaches, yet both sides continue significant military modernization, including Pakistan’s induction of longer-range missiles and India’s increased defense spending. Mutual public perceptions are overwhelmingly negative, with each country ranking the other as its primary security threat. Recent informal Track 2 dialogues and statements from Indian officials have hinted at possible openings for engagement, but official policy emphasizes deterrence and counterterrorism concerns. A late-2025 U.S. think-tank assessment flagged moderate risk of renewed armed clashes in 2026 driven by militant activity and unresolved Kashmir issues.

For the purposes of this market, a qualifying "strike" is defined as the use of aerial bombs, drones, or missiles (including cruise or ballistic missiles) launched by Indian military forces that impact Pakistani territory (e.g., if an Indian missile or drone hits a target within Pakistan’s borders, this market will resolve to "Yes").
Missiles or drones that are intercepted before reaching Pakistani territory, as well as surface-to-air missile strikes, will not be sufficient for a "Yes" resolution regardless of whether debris lands on Pakistani soil or causes damage.
Actions such as artillery fire, small arms fire, FPV or ATGM strikes, ground incursions, naval shelling, cyberattacks, or any operation conducted by Indian ground forces will not qualify as a strike under this market.
The resolution source will be a consensus of credible reporting.
