The USS Abraham Lincoln has remained in the U.S. Central Command area of operations for more than 250 days as of mid-August 2026, far exceeding its original seven-month schedule due to sustained carrier presence requirements amid the Iran conflict. Reports of supply shortages, equipment failures, and crew fatigue prompted congressional inquiries and Pentagon reviews, accelerating a planned carrier rotation. The USS George Washington is en route from the Pacific to relieve the Lincoln, with U.S. officials confirming the swap will allow the Lincoln’s return to its home port. Trader assessments hinge on the Washington’s transit timeline through key chokepoints, any last-minute operational extensions tied to regional tensions, and official Navy statements on handover completion, which would trigger the Lincoln’s departure from CENTCOM waters.
