London City Lionesses host Manchester United Women in the 2026-27 WSL opener at Hayes Lane, pitting a heavily backed newly promoted side against a transitioning opponent. London City’s summer acquisitions, including Alexia Putellas, Mary Earps, Kadidiatou Diani, and Mapi León under manager Eder Maestre, have elevated expectations for immediate competitiveness in a sold-out home fixture. Manchester United enter with new head coach Eva Olid overseeing a young squad focused solely on domestic matters after missing European football, though they hold historical dominance in prior meetings. Recent pre-season results and early league positioning suggest traders view the visitors as slight favorites, tempered by London City’s attacking depth and home advantage in the curtain-raiser.
