Sho Shimabukuro enters the Cincinnati Open qualifying round one as the clear favorite against Hugo Dellien on outdoor hard courts, driven primarily by surface suitability and ranking gap. The Japanese player, ranked around No. 94 with a career high of No. 89, has shown greater consistency on hard than Dellien, whose ATP hard-court record stands at just 1-12. Dellien, the 33-year-old Bolivian at No. 141, is a clay-court specialist with limited recent ATP success and a 1-2 record in 2026. No prior head-to-head exists, but Shimabukuro’s superior movement and baseline power on faster surfaces position him strongly in this best-of-three encounter, where Dellien’s historical struggles away from clay remain the dominant factor.
