The upcoming three-game series at Busch Stadium features two NL Central clubs with nearly identical sub-.500 records, as the Cardinals sit at 66-65 and the Pirates at 63-68. Both clubs are effectively eliminated from postseason contention, shifting focus to individual development and roster health. Key recent factors include multiple starting-pitcher injuries for St. Louis (Pallante and Dobbins on the IL) and Pittsburgh (Keller out for the season), alongside position-player absences such as Cardinals shortstop Masyn Winn (thumb) and Pirates catcher Endy Rodríguez (hip). Home-field advantage, combined with the Cardinals’ marginally stronger recent home splits, shapes trader consensus on series outcomes, while late-August weather in St. Louis and any last-minute lineup tweaks from official injury reports could influence individual game probabilities.
