Elena-Gabriela Ruse faces Anastasia Potapova in the second round of the 2026 National Bank Open on outdoor hard courts in Toronto, marking their first career meeting. Potapova enters ranked significantly higher (around No. 24-27) than Ruse (No. 75-77), giving the Russian a substantial edge in overall consistency and recent results on the WTA Tour. Ruse advanced from the opening round with a straight-sets win over Peyton Stearns, but must overcome Potapova’s superior ranking and hard-court experience. Both players compete in a WTA 1000 event where form on the surface, serve effectiveness, and baseline rallies typically decide early-round outcomes.
