Linda Noskova, the sixth seed and 2026 Wimbledon champion, enters this US Open first-round matchup as the heavy favorite against American Katie Volynets, reflecting her higher ranking, stronger recent results against elite competition, and superior overall win rate. Noskova has emphasized a match-by-match focus without added pressure from her grass-court major title, while Volynets arrives with solid hard-court form after advancing deep in a recent WTA 125K event in Philadelphia. The pair have no prior head-to-head meetings, but Noskova’s baseline level, deciding-set reliability, and serve-return edge position her favorably on hard courts at a Grand Slam. Volynets will need to capitalize on any early opportunities to extend rallies and test the Czech’s consistency.
