Jessica Pegula, the world No. 3 and third seed with a bye, enters this Cincinnati Open second-round match against Simona Waltert as a heavy favorite on outdoor hard courts. Waltert, ranked near No. 85, advanced by defeating Petra Marcinko in three sets but arrives on a three-match losing streak and playing her first hard-court match since March. The pair has no prior head-to-head history. Pegula’s recent form includes losses in Toronto and Washington, yet her strong historical results at this event and consistent top-tier results on home soil underpin the market’s strong consensus. Surface familiarity, ranking gap, and recent results shape the current positioning.
