Trader sentiment on the Palme d'Or remains tightly bunched, with the top four contenders clustered between 24% and 27% implied probability, underscoring a wide-open race among veteran auteurs. The official competition lineup announced last month features a deep bench of directors with strong critical track records, including Paweł Pawlikowski’s “Fatherland,” Na Hong-jin’s “Hope,” Cristian Mungiu’s “Fjord,” and Andrey Zvyagintsev’s “Minotaur,” none of whom has yet pulled decisively ahead after early screenings. Jury president Park Chan-wook’s unpredictable taste and the festival’s history of late surges further flatten the odds, while factors such as genre diversity, national representation, and ongoing press reactions in the next week could still reshape consensus before the May 23 ceremony.
