Yordan Alvarez and Nick Kurtz currently pace MLB with nine intentional walks each through mid-June, followed closely by Mike Trout and Shohei Ohtani, which underpins their lead in trader-implied probabilities for the most IBB this season. Alvarez’s elite power production and middle-of-the-order spot with the Astros have prompted opponents to pitch around him repeatedly, while Kurtz’s patient approach and on-base streaks with the Athletics have drawn similar treatment amid Oakland’s lineup construction. Ohtani, Trout, Juan Soto, and James Wood remain tightly bunched due to their established reputations as feared sluggers whose presence alters opposing strategies, with recent form and team contexts keeping the race fluid among these high-walk-rate hitters.
