Manchester City enter their WSL title defense at home against newly promoted Birmingham City, but recent developments have tightened expectations. Vivianne Miedema’s fresh knee injury sidelines the key forward for the opener, forcing City to adjust their attacking setup after a strong prior campaign. Birmingham, back in the top flight after four seasons away, have strengthened with WSL-experienced additions including Millie Turner and Lisa Naalsund, aiming to build early momentum despite a challenging fixture list. As the season’s first matchday, both sides lack recent competitive sharpness, and City’s historical dominance is tempered by these roster and scheduling factors, leaving traders viewing the outcome as highly contested.
