Ben Shelton enters the Stuttgart Open second-round matchup against fellow American Marcos Giron as the clear favorite on grass, backed by his world No. 5 ranking, powerful serve, and net-rushing style that suits the fast surface ahead of Wimbledon. Shelton leads the head-to-head 2-1 and defeated Giron in three sets on clay at Hamburg in May, though Giron has pushed him competitively in prior encounters. Recent results show Shelton maintaining strong form with consistent wins, while the No. 88-ranked Giron has posted a modest 8-11 record in 2026 and relies on baseline steadiness that may be neutralized by Shelton’s pace and athleticism. Grass-court conditions and Shelton’s serve advantage shape trader consensus around the top seed advancing.
