Joshua Van defends his UFC flyweight title against former champion Alexandre Pantoja in their highly anticipated rematch at UFC 331 on September 19 in Los Angeles. Their December 2025 meeting ended abruptly after 26 seconds when Van caught a kick, Pantoja dislocated his elbow on the fall, and the bout was stopped by TKO. Recent press conferences have featured escalating trash talk, with the 24-year-old Van calling himself Pantoja’s “dad” and vowing to prove the first outcome was no fluke, while the 36-year-old Brazilian has pushed back on respect and legacy concerns. Announcers are likely to highlight the injury controversy, the age and experience gap, Van’s seven-fight win streak including a fifth-round TKO over Tatsuro Taira, and Pantoja’s four prior successful defenses as the narrative builds around whether the champion solidifies his reign or the veteran reclaims the belt.
