SpaceX achieved a major milestone on Starship Flight 13 (July 24, 2026) when the upper stage completed a controlled reentry, heat-shield-protected descent, and soft splashdown in the Indian Ocean with all three Raptor engines relit for the landing burn. This validated the vehicle’s structural integrity and guidance for a precise return profile—key prerequisites for a tower catch. Post-flight, Elon Musk confirmed Flight 14 (NET August 2026) as the target for the first Mechazilla chopsticks attempt on the 50-meter upper stage, following earlier booster catches and recent tower upgrades including shorter electromechanical arms for faster, more reliable tracking. The market currently prices a late-August catch as the leading outcome because rapid iteration, intact Flight 13 telemetry, and regulatory momentum support an imminent attempt, though any anomaly in final descent accuracy or FAA approval could shift timelines.

A successful catch is defined as the chopsticks capturing and supporting the Starship upper stage without it falling to the ground or causing catastrophic damage during the landing process.
If SpaceX attempts an ocean splashdown of the Starship upper stage instead of attempting to catch it using the Orbital Launch Tower's chopsticks, that attempt will not qualify. If no Starship launch occurs, or a successful catch does not take place, by the specified date, 11:59 PM ET, this market will resolve to "No."
The resolution source for this market will be official video provided by SpaceX (https://www.youtube.com/c/SpaceX), as well as secondary video feeds and/or written reports if necessary.
